- Altair Engineering, Inc., an international product design and consulting company based in Troy, Mich., has been working hand-in-hand with the National Association for Stock Car Racing (NASCAR) to aid their ongoing research and development in motorsports safety.
On July 4 in Daytona Beach, Fla., Eric Nelson, program manager for Altair EngineeringÕs Product Design and Development business unit, was invited to lead a discussion at NASCARÕs Driver Safety Update Meeting, attended by drivers, team owners and crew chiefs participating in the holidayÕs Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway.
Nelson presented highlights of the various computer-aided crash simulation projects that Altair has undertaken for NASCAR since early 2001. The simulation technology used by Altair allows NASCAR to accurately simulate on-track incidents to study the effects for both vehicles and drivers.
